Announced is not the same as open: why agencies have to verify new hotels

Announcements of new hotels often enter travel agencies' sales plans months in advance. The problem arises when the announced opening date approaches and the hotel still has not been confirmed as available. Hilton Prishtina, The Cloud One Salzburg and the new The Benedict in Prague are good examples of how situations can vary widely.

On paper, a hotel can be finished, have a website, photos and contact information, and yet still not be accepting guests. For travel agencies, the difference between “coming soon,” soft opening, and actually available capacity is not just a technical detail.

Hilton Prishtina still has the “Coming Soon” sign”

Hilton Prishtina should be one of the more important new international hotel products on the Kosovo market. The hotel has 196 rooms, a wellness center, several restaurants, and 749 square meters of event space. However, on October 6th, Hilton’s official website still lists the hotel as “Coming Soon”.

This is exactly the situation where agencies need to be cautious when booking and confirming accommodation. The announced opening month does not necessarily mean that all rooms, facilities, and services are already available to guests.

This is especially sensitive in groups, MICE program and even complex package arrangements, where changing hotels a few weeks before arrival can create a serious operational problem.

In Salzburg, the brand change was implemented overnight

A different example comes from Salzburg. On September 1st, the . Motel One Group took over management of the former HYPERION Hotel Salzburg in the Palais Faber. The property immediately began operating as The Cloud One Salzburg, While ownership and management of real estate remained unchanged.

The hotel is currently active in the booking channels, and its official website already displays guest reviews from September.

For agencies, such a rebranding brings a second problem: it is necessary to check whether the hotel name, photos, product descriptions, and data in internal systems have been updated. The old name may remain present in various distribution channels for some time.

Prague shows what a truly open new hotel looks like

The Benedict Boutique Hotel Old Town Prague is also a new product on the market. However, unlike the hotel that is still in the “coming soon” phase, its official website has active bookings, while the booking channels are showing inventory and guest stays as early as September.

Availability should be the main criterion for the agency. A PR announcement or the announced opening date are good signals that a new product is coming to the market, but they are not enough for sales.

When booking new hotels, it is worth checking whether there is actual capacity for the specific dates, whether all the announced facilities are operational, and under what name the property appears in the booking confirmation. GDS, bed banks and OTA channels.

Simply put, for the agency, a hotel is not open when the news of its opening is announced. It is open when it can be booked with confidence and when the guest can actually receive exactly what they were sold.
