Gen Z and Alpha are changing the rules of corporate travel policy

New report Booking.com for Business confirms what many TMCs and HR teams are already feeling in practice – younger generations are strongly redefining business travel.

According to the data in the report (5 February 2026), Generations Z and Alpha will make up 49 per cent of the global workforce by 2034., with Gen Z alone reaching 34% and becoming the largest generational group of employees.

What does that mean for business travel?

  • Travel influences employer choice
As many as 57% of Gen Z members say they find jobs with an international dimension more attractive, and 70% look forward to business travel.
  • Digital-first expectations
As digital natives, they expect mobile tools, simple online booking, AI recommendations and a personalised experience – similar to that enjoyed by private passengers.
  • Bleisure is no longer the exception
Flexibility is a key reason for Gen Z and millennials to stay with a company. Extending business trips for personal purposes is becoming standard, and clear and flexible policies are increasingly important.
  • Controlled autonomy
Platforms that offer employees the freedom for self-booking, while retaining control over costs and policies, stand out as an optimal solution.

Joshua Wood, Director at Booking.com for Business, says the key to success lies in the combination simplicity, flexibility, and financial discipline, with technology that removes friction and preserves passenger well-being.

Corporate travel is moving away from rigid rules towards passenger-focused experience. Those who adapt to new generations will retain talent and turn travel from an expense into a growth tool.
