Lufthansa changes the name of its fares and launches a joint group campaign
The previous Green Fare fares are being rebranded due to stricter rules on environmental claims. In addition, for the first time, the Lufthansa Group is presenting the benefits of the entire group to passengers through a joint campaign.
Lufthansa Group On October 23, it announced that it would rename its Green Fare fares to Impact Fare. For travelers and sales agents, the difference is important: it is about a new name for the existing offer, not about the announced price increase or reduction of tickets. The group links the change to new regulatory requirements for environmental communication.
The change comes after the implementation of new European rules against misleading environmental claims on September 27. Terms such as „green” travel therefore require a more precise explanation of what the customer is actually paying for and what the impact of their contribution is.
What does the Impact Fare tariff include?
The price includes contributions for the additional use of sustainable aviation fuel SAF, as well as selected climate protection projects.
On European flights the amount of additional SAF It is determined based on 20 percent of estimated CO₂ emissions associated with the flight. The contribution to climate projects is calculated based on the remaining 80 percent. On intercontinental routes, the ratio is 10 to 90 percent. The group introduces additional SAF into its operations within six months of departure.
These percentages do not indicate the share of SAF in the aircraft tank in which the passenger is traveling. Lufthansa also states that purchasing this fare alone does not make it sustainable. The passenger finances additional measures within the group’s network and projects outside its business operations.
In addition to the aforementioned benefits, the fare provides additional miles and points. Depending on the booking class and destination, it also includes more flexible options for changing reservations. More than five million passengers have chosen the previous Green Fare offer.
The joint brand is introduced to passengers
Two days before the tariff announcement, the Lufthansa Group launched its first consumer campaign at group level, under the slogan „Greatness is a Group effort”.
At the heart are the benefits associated with the network of carriers and hubs: greater choice of connections, a network of lounges, benefits of the loyalty program, and digital services. Some airlines retain their own identity and continue their marketing activities.
The campaign is gradually appearing on digital channels, social media platforms, airports, lounges, and aircraft. It continues with the new identity of the umbrella brand unveiled at the end of 2025, with the intention of making it easier for passengers to recognize the benefits of being part of the same group.
