Bucharest gets more than 1500 new hotel rooms: is a new MICE cycle on the way?
More than 1,500 new hotel rooms are expected to enter the Bucharest market by 2028. This corresponds to approximately 13 percent of the current hotel stock and includes projects ranging from midscale to luxury segments.
The number is large enough to reshape the hotel landscape of the Romanian capital and raise an interesting question for travel agencies: can a broader choice of internationally branded hotels help Bucharest attract more business and MICE travel?
Data from Cushman & Wakefield Echinox give investors plenty of reason for optimism. RevPAR at Bucharest hotels rose by 5% in the first half of 2026 compared with a year earlier, and by 25.2% compared with 2019. Average daily rates are now 27.7% above pre-pandemic levels.
Large international brands are increasing their presence
The pipeline includes Swissôtel Bucharest with 199 rooms, as well as Hyatt House and Hyatt Place within Nusco City, which should together bring 270 more rooms.
Other projects include The Julius Bucharest in the former Ambasador hotel with 160 rooms and a planned hotel at Promenada Mall with 205 rooms. Hilton Garden Inn Militari and Tecadra Bucharest, part of Accor’s Handwritten Collection, are also expected to enter the market in 2026, adding a combined 225 rooms.
Bucharest is not only growing through new buildings. Part of the projects includes the repositioning of existing properties and the entry of international hotel brands, which brings greater visibility to the city within global loyalty and distribution systems.
For agencies, the mix is more important than the actual number of rooms.
Additional 1,500 rooms alone will not turn Bucharest into a more powerful MICE destination. However, a larger number of internationally recognized hotels of different categories facilitate the organization of corporate groups, conferences, and incentive programs.
This is particularly relevant for TMCs and DMCs that need to combine location, conference facilities, pricing, and the standard that international clients already know.
Investment interest is also growing. Bucharest attracted 46.3 million euros in hotel investments during 2025, almost three times more than a year earlier.
For regional agencies, Bucharest therefore deserves to be viewed in a broader context than just a classic city break. If the planned projects If implemented as planned, by 2028 the city will have a significantly wider range of products for business, group and premium travel.
