Amadeus and Anthropic connect Claude with travel content and tools

Amadeus has taken a new step towards a model in which travel technology will not only be used through classic interfaces and developer portals. The company is cooperating with Anthropic to make its content and certain functionalities available within AI tools such as Claude Code and Claude Cowork.

Amadeus is preparing a unified toolkit for developers that is designed to bring together connectivity, documentation, authentication, and access to travel content. The idea is that, with the help of Claude Code, a developer can use natural language to find the required features, build prototypes, and develop applications faster.

The initial focus will be on flight and destination content, while the product is currently in a phase for which Amadeus is accepting waitlist applications.

AI is getting closer to the operational work of tourism companies

The second part of the collaboration relates to tourism professionals. Amadeus is working on a Claude Cowork plugin through which users could access selected Amadeus applications without constantly switching between different systems.

Ambition goes beyond mere data visualisation. Users could explore information, create content and analyses, and trigger specific activities within Amadeus's systems using natural language. Amadeus emphasises controlled access, security mechanisms and organisational oversight regarding how AI is used. The company has already completed a pilot project with Claude Enterprise.

For agencies, TMCs and other travel sellers, this opens up an interesting scenario: the AI assistant is no longer just a tool that gives recommendations or summarises data, but potentially becomes a layer sitting on top of existing booking and operational systems.

New approach following the closure of the Self-Service API portal

That move is particularly interesting because of the decision Amadeus made earlier this year. Self-Service API portal, which gave independent developers and startups relatively simple access to selected APIs, was shut down on 17 July 2026. The enterprise API platform has continued to operate and currently offers access to more than 100 APIs subject to an access approval request.

It is therefore not difficult to view the partnership with Anthropic as a shift in how Amadeus envisions the developer approach to its infrastructure. Instead of a portal through which developers search through documentation and APIs themselves, some of that work could be taken over by an AI agent within the developer environment itself.

For travel tech market a more important question will be how open such an approach will be, which functionalities will be available and under what commercial conditions. If AI agents truly become one of the main ways of interacting with distribution and booking systems, the value will no longer just be in the API. It will also be in how easily an AI can find, understand and securely use it.
