The EU is giving away 40,000 free travel passes to young people through DiscoverEU to mark 40 years of Schengen.
The European Commission is marking the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Area with a special gift – 40,000 free Interrail Pass for young people who want to explore Europe.
Programme DiscoverEU, initiative Erasmus+, offers young people born between 1 January and 31 December 2007. an opportunity to Free trip around Europe for up to 30 days, between 1 March 2026 and 31 May 2027.
Applications are open at European Youth Portal do 13 November 2025 at 13:00 (Central European Time). Candidates will need to complete a short quiz about the European Union, and successful participants will receive flight tickets and discounts public transport, accommodation, food, cultural events and sport in 36 European countries.
DiscoverEU encourages sustainable train travel and offers themed routes such as „Green routes“, which leads through European cities awarded for sustainability and climate neutrality, and Route of the New European Bauhaus, inspired by urban innovations and inclusive design.
Additional support and the option to travel with a companion are provided for participants with disabilities or health difficulties.
