Hotel Minerva opens after renovation: Varaždinske Toplice strengthens health tourism

One of the largest spa accommodation complexes in Croatia has completed an extensive renovation. The refurbished Minerva offers 253 rooms, four suites and seven swimming pools, and the project also raises the question of more strongly integrating health tourism into agency sales.

In Varaždinske Toplice, the renovated was officially opened on 29 October. Hotel Minerva, after a year and a half of reconstruction costing approximately 40 million euros. The hotel is part of the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation in Varaždinske Toplice, and the renovation encompassed the accommodation, catering areas, swimming pools and the infrastructure of the entire complex.

This is one of the larger investments in the health and tourism infrastructure of mainland Croatia. Upon completion of the works, Varaždinske Toplice gained a modernised facility that links medical rehabilitation with hotel and recreational amenities.

Renovated rooms, restaurants and seven new swimming pools

Minerva now has 253 rooms and four suites, totalling 443 beds. Three restaurants and their associated kitchens have been renovated, and a special part of the project was the reconstruction of the pool complex.

Guests and users of rehabilitation services have at their disposal seven new pools: three outdoor, three indoor recreational and one therapeutic.

The works covered approximately 33,800 square metres, including the hotel building, outdoor pools, squares, roads and green spaces. The water supply and sewerage installations were modernised, and the areas were adapted for people with disabilities.

The project is funded by a combination of European funds, the state budget, and the resources of Varaždin County and the Special Hospital.

Can Minerva attract more health tourists?

For Varaždinske Toplice, the renovation has a broader significance than merely raising the standards of existing accommodation.

The destination has a long tradition of rehabilitation and spa tourism, but international sales of such products require a clear offering: from standalone wellness stays to programmes that include medical procedures and professionally guided rehabilitation.

This is precisely where there is scope for collaboration with specialist travel agencies and health-tourism organisers. Unlike conventional hotel accommodation, such arrangements often require additional coordination of schedules, medical services and accommodation conditions.

The grand opening of Minerva Confirms the completion of the renovationYes, but for now it's not yet clear when all capacities will be available for commercial bookings. The institution's official website still carries a notice of closure for works.

For agencies, the next important piece of information will be the publication of updated prices, booking conditions and programmes aimed at guests outside the hospital rehabilitation system.
