Emirates introduces free date changes for flights to Dubai

Emirates has further eased travel conditions to Dubai: from 10 August, passengers can change their travel date free of charge and unlimited times on most fares. At the same time, ticket refund fees have been significantly reduced, which could facilitate sales during a period of increased uncertainty regarding travel to the Middle East.

Emirates has extended its flexible booking policy for passengers whose final destination is Dubai. The new rules cover Economy Saver and Flex, as well as Business Special, Saver and Flex fares. Date changes are free of charge, although the passenger must still pay any fare difference for the new ticket. Flex Plus, Premium Economy and First Class already have more flexible conditions.

Lower fees and fewer risks when booking

The cancellation conditions have also been changed. The refund fee for Economy Saver and Business Special and Saver tickets is now 50 dollars, while for Economy and Business Flex tariffs it has been reduced to 25 dollars. No-show fees remain unchanged.

Emirates has already introduced one free date change for all tickets issued from April 2nd, including itineraries with a layover in Dubai. Passengers can also hold the offered price for 24 hours free of charge.

Flexibility is becoming part of a wider strategy

The new measures come after a period of significant disruption to air traffic in the Middle East. Emirates announced in early May that it had restored 96% of its global network, while some European carriers continue to restrict operations to the region. KLM, for example, on 5 August extended the suspension of flights to Dubai until 24 October.

At the same time, Emirates is expanding passenger protection. Its Comprehensive Travel Cover insurance, available in 27 countries, includes cover for trip cancellation, baggage, medical expenses and evacuation, as well as additional conflict-related protection.

Skywards further boosts bookings

Until 31 August, Emirates Skywards members need 20% fewer Tier Miles to advance to a higher status, and they also receive 20% bonus Tier Miles on Emirates and flydubai flights. The value of the Cash+Miles option has been temporarily doubled: 2,000 miles now provides a $30 discount instead of the usual $15.

Emirates tries to remove as many obstacles as possible between the interest in travel and the booking itself. In a market where travellers are increasingly evaluating the possibility of changing their plans, particularly due to circumstances in the Middle East, flexibility is becoming very important.
