The butterfly facilitates the work of sub-agents by automating business processes.

The technological innovation presented at the annual conference in Rhodes combines mid-office, consulting and reservations to relieve agents of operational pressure ahead of the peak season.

At the moment when tourism sector faces the peak of the summer season and the traditional surge last-minute Upita, German technology and agency giant Butterfly International has launched a solution that could significantly change the daily lives of agents. This is a pilot project of Agentic AI, which is fully integrated into the company's existing software ecosystem, with a clear goal: to remove the administrative burden from agents so they can focus exclusively on consulting and sales.

The introduction of such tools into traditional agencies is no longer an experiment for the future, but a necessity for survival in conditions of high demand and a chronic lack of time. With this move, Schmetterling demonstrates how technology can directly impact productivity without the need for complicated staff training.

Background integration of three key systems

Unlike generic AI tools that require manual data input, Schmetterling's AI pilot operates seamlessly in the background. The system is directly linked to the three pillars of their technology: the ARGUS mid-office system, the XENA advice and comparison platform, and the NEO booking system.

This deep integration allows artificial intelligence to independently perform standardised processes. This includes the initial creation of travel offers based on historical data and preferences, as well as the automated reactivation of existing clients who have not made any bookings for a long time. Agents, therefore, receive ready-made drafts and processed data, instead of spending hours searching and compiling tables.

Initial field results and reactivation of dormant customers

That it’s not just a theoretical concept is also shown by the first figures published just a few days after the system was launched. In a short period, the AI pilot generated and sent over a thousand personalised emails on behalf of individual travel agencies. Each message was tailored to the recipient's profile, with the aim of re-activating the “dormant” potential in the agencies' databases.

The company's management emphasises that the timing of the launch is intentional. Co-owner and Schmetterling Chief Executive Officer, Ömer Karaca, he called on partners to overcome the initial fear of new technologies. According to him, entrusting part of the operational work to artificial intelligence just before the peak season can drastically reduce stress levels in offices and unlock revenue that would otherwise be overlooked due to lack of time.

For wider industry, This move by Schmetterling is a clear indicator of the direction travel tech is developing in. Automation of routine communication and offer preparation is becoming standard, and the real value of a human agent is shifting exclusively to the realm of complex consulting and building client relationships.
