Amadeus introduces AI into accommodation distribution with new tools
The technology giant is expanding its hotel portfolio with solutions that connect hotel systems to artificial intelligence and accelerate the daily operations of hotel teams.
The way travellers search for and book accommodation is undergoing a quiet but fundamental change. Classic search engines, OTA platforms and direct hotel websites are no longer the only starting points for searches. An increasing number of users are entrusting their travel planning to AI assistants. These assistants handle complex requests regarding location, price and specific hotel services. This presents a completely new challenge for the hotel industry. The question is, how can hotels remain visible and competitive on channels not managed by traditional distribution systems?
Amadeus responds to this challenge by launching two new tools based on artificial intelligence. The main focus is on an AI commerce solution that enables hotels to market their rooms directly within conversational AI interfaces. The key challenge here remains real-time data synchronization. For an AI assistant to successfully recommend and sell a room, it must handle accurate pricing, availability, taxes, and cancellation policies. Amadeus therefore connects these new channels to existing central systems. This avoids pricing errors that could erode guest trust.
Open standards for autonomous reservations
One of the most interesting aspects of this technological transition is Amadeus's collaboration with Google and other partners on the development of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) for accommodation. This is an open standard for so-called agentive commerce (English:. Agentic commerceWith this concept, AI systems are not just for making recommendations, but gain the ability to execute transactions independently.
For hoteliers and sales managers, this brings standardisation to an otherwise fragmented space. A common protocol should ensure that cancellation terms, loyalty benefits, and payment processes are clearly defined and accurate. This would apply regardless of which AI assistant is handling communication with the end customer.
Smarter hotel workflows
Besides guest-facing solutions, technological changes are also entering the interiors hotel offices. The new Amadeus Max assistant integrates directly into the daily operations of hotel employees. Instead of manually searching for and combining data from different software, teams can now use natural language to obtain business insights.
The first version of this system, named Amadeus Max for Advisor, works with Amadeus's well-known business intelligence tools such as Demand360 and RevenueStrategy360. The system helps in tracking market demand and agency trends. Furthermore, there are plans to expand into advertising, sales, and event organisation segments. This should dramatically speed up the processing of group inquiries and the creation of offers.
This move, which follows Amadeus' earlier acquisition of the American startup SkyLink, clearly shows the direction in which the travel tech industry is heading. Artificial intelligence is ceasing to be just a marketing term and is becoming infrastructure. This links visibility on new channels with operational efficiency in the background.
