Airbnb and TripAdvisor are joining forces on Experiences content
During 2026, Airbnb will begin offering a portion of tours, activities, and attractions from the Tripadvisor Group portfolio. The partnership demonstrates that Airbnb is increasingly combining its own offering with major distribution partners to grow its Experiences segment.
Airbnb is accelerating the expansion of its offering without waiting for organic growth
Airbnb and Tripadvisor Group have agreed integration of part Tripadvisor's tourism experiences to the Airbnb platform. The new offering should become available for booking later this year, but the companies have not yet announced how many products will be included.
This is an important detail because Tripadvisor Group, through Tripadvisor and Viator, has a selection of more than 425,000 tours, activities and attractions worldwide. Airbnb thus gains access to a large content base without needing to build every experience exclusively through its own network of hosts and local partners.
Experiences are growing fast, but from a small base
The partnership comes at a time when Airbnb is trying to turn Experiences into a significantly larger part of its business. During the second quarter, the company added about 1,000 new experiences in the most sought-after categories, while supply grew by almost 80 percent compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, Brian Chesky told analysts that Experiences and Services remain a multi-year project and that current growth is still achieved from a relatively small base.
As early as May, Airbnb announced thousands of additional experiences, including more than 3,000 products related to famous attractions and over 2,500 food and drink experiences. At the same time, the platform is expanding into hotels, transfers, car hire and other travel services.
Tripadvisor expands distribution where demand arises
For Tripadvisor Group, the partnership is a continuation of the strategy by which Experiences content seeks to be made available on as many sales and discovery channels as possible. Viator has also recently become the first connected service for tourist experiences in Google's Gemini, where users can search and compare its catalogue.
For the tours and activities market, this is yet another signal that distribution will become just as important as the breadth of the offering itself. Airbnb gains a faster path to scaling, while Tripadvisor gains access to an audience that is already planning or booking a trip. For local operators, this potentially means greater reach, but also an even more pronounced dependence on the major platforms that control the relationship with the traveller.
