The Mediterranean and Indian Oceans lead the boom in adult-only hotels
Demand for the adult-only concept in Summer 2026 is seeing above-average growth, and tour operators and hoteliers are increasingly investing in differentiating their offerings through luxury wellness, personalised gastronomy, and privacy.
An increasing number of travellers, primarily couples and solo tourists, are seeking a departure from traditional family resorts, which has initiated a significant wave of investment in so-called adults-only segment. According to the latest data from tour operator TUI for the summer season 2026, this segment of the hotel industry is growing faster than the market average. For domestic and regional agencies and hotel managers, this is a clear signal of where the capital of high-spending guests, who are prepared to spend significant budgets for a week of holiday, is going.
The strategic focus of such establishments has completely shifted from a purely “restrictive” character (banning children) towards highly specialised services. Today, hotels compete by introducing rooms with private pools, exclusive evening programmes, and authentic local cuisine, thereby successfully justifying higher prices and optimising operating costs through stable occupancy outside the peak season itself.
Greece and Italy have primacy in the Mediterranean.
When it comes to closer, Mediterranean destinations, The market is currently dominated by proven Greek and Italian destinations. Topping the booking charts is TUI Magic Life Candia Maris in Crete, which has attracted a clientele focused on intensive fitness and active programmes. Following close behind is TUI Blue Lindos Bay in Rhodes, which plays the card of advanced spa and medical treatments.
From the Italian side, the current hit is TUI Blue Tropea in Calabria. This establishment brilliantly leverages its micro-location on the famous “Coast of the Gods” and the integration of local gastronomy into its board offerings. From a business perspective, these examples show that the sustainability of a model no longer lies solely in sun and sea, but in the clear profiling of a niche within the hotel itself.
Exoticism and distant horizons: Privacy as the new luxury
In faraway destinations, the Indian Ocean remains the undisputed leader for couples seeking complete intimacy. Mauritius and the Maldives holding the top of the charts for the most sought-after locations, and complexes like Riu Palace Mauritius and TUI Blue Olhuveli Romance in the Maldives are achieving excellent results thanks to a combination of top-notch water sports and maximum isolation of accommodation units.
This trend is directly supported by the expansion of air travel capacity towards these islands. Interestingly, the Dominican Republic and Zanzibar are rapidly gaining market share. Both destinations have significantly modernised their tourist infrastructure in the past two years to meet the demanding standards of this profitable group of guests.
Financial sustainability and operational benefits
From an economic perspective, the adults-only hotel segment has proven to be an exceptionally stable source of revenue. This season, the prices for packages including a week-long stay and flight tickets range from 929 to 1,679 euros per person, depending on the destination and services offered.
A high degree of specialisation allows management to precisely control procurement and labour costs. Instead of broad family entertainment, resources are channelled into top-tier bartenders, wellness therapists, and sports coaches, ultimately resulting in significantly higher ancillary revenue and strengthening brand loyalty.
