Sundowner 2026 at Ljubljana Airport brought together tourism agencies and airlines
At Sundowner 2026, held last week at Ljubljana Airport, representatives of travel agencies, tour operators, and airlines gathered. The event began with a tour of the airport’s backstage area, and continued with the presentation of the airport’s development plans and a gathering of partners.
Development of the airport from a partner's perspective
Fraport spoke to the guests about how innovation and artificial intelligence are used to improve the passenger experience and operational efficiency. The conversation linked these projects with the ambition to make Ljubljana the first choice for travel for the wider region.
For agencies and tour operators, this meeting is an opportunity to directly talk with the airport management and the representatives of the airline. Flight availability, the ease of travel, and the work of the airport all influence how easily a tourism product can be sold in a given market. The exchange of ideas among partners, along with the opportunity to network, was an important part of Sundowner.

Meeting in a period of growing traffic
The event took place as Ljubljana recorded growth in passenger traffic. The airport welcomed its one millionth passenger on July 31, three weeks earlier than the previous year. Fraport expects approximately 1.7 million passengers for the entire year. This is a useful context for discussions on capacity and connecting Slovenia with other markets, but it is not the result of Sundowner itself.
Sundowner thus provided partners with a view of the airport operations and a space for conversation outside of regular business meetings. The topics were, of course, also the latest routes announced from Ljubljana airport, These visits, especially the announced United flight to New York and other European routes, will be additional options for agencies and tour operators, as well as for the passengers themselves, of course. Such “behind the scenes” visits are certainly important for understanding the operations at the airport, and for tourism professionals they provide an argument and a guide for speaking with clients.
