Naples Airport to close for a month: some flights diverted to Salerno
Naples Airport will neither receive nor dispatch commercial flights from 1 to 30 November 2026 due to runway refurbishment. Airlines have adjusted their flight schedules, and some traffic is being handled by the nearby Salerno Airport.
Naples-Capodichino International Airport will be closed for the entire month of November 2026 due to extensive work on the runway and taxiways. The closure will begin on 1 November and will last until 30 November, confirmed airport operator GESAC.
This is a pre-planned renovation worth approximately 30 million euros, which aims to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the airport infrastructure.
November was chosen because of the lighter seasonal traffic to minimise the impact on passengers and airlines. However, the complete closure of one of southern Italy's major airports required significant adjustments to flight schedules.
Some flights are handled by Salerno Airport.
Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento Airport, located south of Naples, will take on some of the air traffic during November.
According to GESAC, flights from Salerno will be available to 15 domestic and international destinations.
Among them are Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, which will be served by Eurowings, and Amsterdam and Paris, which will be connected by Transavia. Flights to Barcelona, Madrid, Dubai, Casablanca and Sharm el-Sheikh are also planned.
Domestic routes include scheduled connections to Milan, Bergamo, Genoa, Turin and Trieste.
However, not all flights from Naples have been diverted to Salerno. Lufthansa had earlier announced a temporary suspension of its flights to Naples during November, with the possibility of rerouting passengers onto alternative flights via Rome.
Passengers are therefore advised to check their updated reservations and the correct arrival or departure airport before departure.
Additional bus connections between Naples and Salerno
To facilitate access to the alternative airport, GESAC and Busitalia Campania have organised special bus services between Naples' Piazza Garibaldi, near the main railway station, and Salerno Airport.
There are eight departures a day in each direction, timed to the flight schedule. A single ticket costs €12, and payment can be made electronically on the bus.
Connections between Salerno Airport and the local railway station have also been enhanced. Passengers will also have access to shared taxis with fixed fares.
