What does the Hellosafe index measure?

The index takes into account the following categories:

  • armed conflicts (internal and external)
  • healthcare infrastructure
  • degree of militarisation

It is important to highlight that this index does not assess tourist attractiveness, but exclusively passenger safety.

Latin America – contrasts of security

Although the region offers a wealth of attractive destinations, the level of safety varies:

  • Paraguay and Uruguay among the safest
  • Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico – at the bottom of the rankings due to violence, militarisation and a high crime rate

For tourism professionals, such data can be a valuable tool when advising clients, especially those who seek safety as a primary criterion when choosing a destination. Although no country is entirely without risk, an informed choice can make travel more enjoyable and stress-free.
