28 January MSC Cruises expands Ocean Cay: new phase of development for private island in the Bahamas
MSC Cruises has announced New phase of development for Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, their private island in the Bahamas, which has, since 2019, become one of the most important destinations on the cruise company's Caribbean itineraries. New facilities and infrastructure projects are planned for the end of 2027, with a clear focus on premium experience, families, and sustainable tourism.
New content and experiences on Ocean Cay
The development includes a range of new features that further expand the island's offerings:
- New culinary offeringsFour new restaurant concepts, including a signature specialty restaurant, new buffets, and gourmet markets
- Seakers Cove Family BeachCompletely redesigned family zone with a playground, splash pad, ropes course, and entertainment for all generations.
- Paradise Sands – adults only beachA new exclusive adult-only zone, focused on peace, lounge atmosphere and sunsets.
- More Balinese bedsenhanced offering of luxury zones for private relaxation
Sustainability and guest education
Through the MSC Foundation, the experience is being introduced on the island. “Shifting Perspective”, which brings guests closer to marine conservation projects, coral restoration and marine ecosystems through interactive and educational content.
Infrastructure and other private island
Is underway pier extension, which will enable two cruise ships to dock simultaneously and make it easier for guests to get to the island. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
In parallel, it is also developing second private island, internal naming convention Little Cay, located in the immediate vicinity of Ocean Cay, with a focus on preserved nature and premium infrastructure.

Ocean Cay offers more than 3 km shoreline, sandy beach, seven bars, a rich gastronomic and excursion offering, and numerous water activities. For MSC Cruises, further development of private islands confirms the trend in the cruise industry – private destinations are becoming a key tool for differentiation, increasing destination spending and strengthening traveller loyalty.
