Meta Muse enters travel sales: AI agent via Duffel can book a flight

Meta's new AI agent Muse in the US can search for current flight prices, make a booking and manage part of the post-purchase process. Integration with Duffel shows how AI agents are moving from the trip planning phase directly into distribution and sales.

In early September, Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent to which users can delegate specific tasks, including booking travel. Instead of simply suggesting a flight and sending the traveller to another page, Muse can initiate a search, compare offers and carry the process through to purchase.

For the travel part of that process, Meta has partnered with British-based Duffel, whose infrastructure gives Museu access to the live inventory and prices of over 500 airlines.

Duffel turns an AI conversation into a booking

A Museu user can describe where and when they want to travel, after which the agent searches for available flights via Duffel's API. The integration supports bookings, cancellations and part of trip management, whilst Duffel also provides 24-hour human support when the automated process is not enough.

That is an important distinction compared to traditional AI tools for inspiration and planning. PhocusWire reports that bookings made through Duffel's route are issued via Duffel's agency infrastructure, whereas in most cases the suppliers themselves are the merchant of record. Duffel plans to expand the integration to accommodation as well.

Stripe is solving one of the harder pain points of agentic commerce

The second part of the puzzle is payment. Meta has integrated Stripe's Link wallet for AI agents into Muse. At merchants that accept Link, the agent can use a saved payment method, while at others, Stripe generates a single-use virtual card restricted to the approved transaction.

Before purchasing, the user confirms the amount, while Muse does not have access to the actual card details.

New distribution layer between passengers and suppliers

For tourism industry where the transaction takes place is more important than how advanced the AI model itself is. If a user can plan, compare and purchase a trip without leaving the conversation with the agent, platforms like Meta are potentially becoming the new entry point into the existing distribution chain.

This raises the question of offer visibility, inventory access, and relationships with intermediaries and suppliers. For airlines, OTAs, TMCs, and travel-tech companies, API availability and high-quality booking servicing are becoming just as important as traditional digital marketing.

Meanwhile, Meta has also announced the integration of Muse with its AI glasses, which shows that the agent does not plan to remain just another app on a phone.
