Hotel Academia in Zagreb will become part of the prestigious Tribute Portfolio brand within the Marriott International chain

Collaboration between Tiberius Hotels and a global giant Marriott International brings a thorough transformation of the building in Tkalčićeva Street, giving Zagreb a new design asset in the very heart of the city.

New era for the hotel in Tkalčićeva

The Zagreb hotel scene will soon be enriched by another globally recognised brand. Hotel Academia, Located in one of the city's most attractive locations next to Kaptol Centar, it is entering a phase of complete rebranding and reconstruction. Thanks to an agreement between the investor Tiberius Hotels and the Marriott International chain, this property will become part of Tribute Portfolio – a collection of hotels known for their striking design, independent spirit, and strong connection to local identity.

For the Zagreb market, this is not just a cosmetic name change, but a strategic shift towards the premium segment. The aim is to create a space that is not exclusively for tourists, but functions as a vibrant social hub for the local community, following contemporary trends where hotels become an integral part of the urban fabric.

Investment in luxury and business infrastructure

The renovation project, financially supported by Zagrebačka banka and HBOR, is planned to commence in early 2026. Although the reconstruction works appear extensive, the planned completion by mid-2027 suggests an ambitious pace. Once it reopens its doors in a new guise, the hotel will feature 65 accommodation units, all designed in the spirit of modern urban comfort.

What makes this project particularly interesting for event industry professionals are the capacities for the MICE segment. With three conference halls that can accommodate over 400 guests, the hotel significantly strengthens Zagreb's business tourism offering in the pedestrian zone. The additional commercial space on the ground floor, covering over 1500 square metres, will open its doors to new retail and service concepts, further commercialising the entire complex.

Synergy of design and authentic experience

The philosophy of the Tribute Portfolio rests on individuality, which in this case is evident through the planned rooftop terrace with a view of the historic core, the wellness zone, and a “signature” bar. Robert Brgić, Business Development Director, points out that the collaboration with Marriott is a confirmation of trust in a project that should raise the bar for service quality in the city centre.

Official ownership data confirms that entrepreneur Mario Krtalić (M1 Film) is behind the project in collaboration with Šted invest, while the operational management is taken over by experienced players from the real estate and construction market. Marriott's entry into Tkalčićeva is a clear signal that Zagreb, despite growing competition, still has untapped potential in the lifestyle and boutique hotel segment that rely on a strong branded background while retaining local charm.
