Dubai rewards residents who bring in overseas visitors

The „A Dubai Invite“ programme offers UAE residents benefits worth over 3,000 dirhams when their friends or family members visit Dubai. The city is thus transforming personal recommendations into a concrete tool for stimulating tourism demand.

Dubai has launched a programme that directly involves residents in promoting the destination. Instead of a classic campaign aimed solely at potential travellers, the „A Dubai Invite“ initiative relies on people who already live in the city and regularly host family and friends from other countries.

UAE residents and citizens over the age of 18 can pre-register their guests via an online form before their arrival. Visitors must reside outside the UAE and travel to Dubai on an appropriate tourist or visit visa.

Benefits worth around 700 euros

Once the system confirms the guest's arrival, the person who registered them receives a benefits package worth over 3,000 dirhams, which is approximately 700 euros. The package includes offers from hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, transport providers and other service providers.

Among the included partners are hotel brands W Dubai Mina Seyahi, The Westin, Le Méridien, Meliá and IHG Hotels & Resorts, as well as transport platforms Careem and Hala.

Guests must arrive between 20th July and 31st October 2026. Each visitor can only be registered once, while one resident can redeem a maximum of three benefit packages during the programme's duration.

Residents become a sales channel for the destination

For the tourism industry, the campaign model itself is more interesting than the value of individual discounts. Dubai is transforming its international community, encompassing almost 200 nationalities, into a network of local ambassadors and a potential channel for guest acquisition.

A recommendation from a friend or family member often carries more weight than a paid advertisement. What's more, visits to relatives and friends generate spending that isn't confined to accommodation alone. Restaurants, attractions, shops, and local transport providers all benefit.

Stimulating off-peak demand

The campaign timing is no coincidence. The summer months are traditionally more demanding for tourist demand in Dubai due to the high temperatures. The programme therefore links destination promotion with measurable arrivals and a reward that is only activated after confirmed travel.

Such an approach could be interesting for other destinations with a large number of foreign residents. Instead of another broad promotional campaign, Dubai is investing in the personal connections that already exist and using them to fill hotels, restaurants, and attractions during periods of low demand.
