Austrian hotel giant takes over Therme Loipersdorf

Falkensteiner Group It has joined forces with partners from the insurance and construction sectors. Their aim is to take over the management of Austria's largest thermal resort and its associated hotel and conference facilities.

Strategic step forward on the home front

Austrian hotel market There is a significant reshuffle occurring in the year-round tourism sector. Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG) has decided to significantly strengthen its presence in Styria and Lower Austria. It recognises these regions as its key source and operational markets. Through a new strategic partnership with insurance company Merkur Versicherung and construction company Granit, FMTG is entering the ownership and management structure of Therme Loipersdorf. This is officially the largest thermal complex in the country.

This acquisition goes beyond just the management of pools and wellness facilities. By taking control of Hotel Das Sonnreich and its associated Congress Centre Loipersdorf, the group is creating a complete offering. This will allow them to cater to the needs of various guest segments, from families to business visitors.

Consolidation of wellness and MICE offerings for stable business

Therme Loipersdorf, situated in southeastern Styria, represents one of the most stable tourism projects in Austria. The number of visitors is an impressive 478,000 annually. The resort integrates three distinct thermal areas and advanced health programmes. For this reason, it makes it an ideal platform for the development of medical and wellness tourism. These are segments that are experiencing continuous growth in demand in the post-pandemic period.

Combining a Congress Centre and a large thermal resort under the unified management of a well-known hotel brand means simplified sales and a standardised level of service. It also brings stronger cross-selling opportunities. FMTG CEO Otmar Michaeler emphasised that the shared vision with partners was the key motivation for entering this project. This project brings new energy and synergy to the Austrian market.

With this move, Falkensteiner once again proves that the future of the hotel business lies in diversifying its offering. It also lies in strengthening products that are not dependent on seasonality. The integration of Loipersdorf into FMTG's global sales and marketing system is expected to further enhance the value of the entire destination. Likewise, it should set new standards in regional tourism.
