The safest countries to travel to in 2025 according to the Hellosafe index
Destination safety is often a crucial factor when planning a trip – particularly for families, solo travellers or those who wish to avoid stress and uncertainty. A new analysis by the portal Hellosafe, based on as many as 35 objective criteria, presents a list of the safest and riskiest countries for travel in 2025.
What does the Hellosafe index measure?
The index takes into account the following categories:
- frequency of natural disasters
- the level of violence in society
- armed conflicts (internal and external)
- healthcare infrastructure
- degree of militarisation
It is important to highlight that this index does not assess tourist attractiveness, but exclusively passenger safety.
Top 10 safest countries to travel in 2025.
- Island (18.2 points)
- Singapore (20.0)
- Danish (20.1)
- Austria (20.3)
- Switzerland (20.5)
- Czech Republic (21.2)
- Norway
- Japan
- Portugal
- Germany
It is interesting that as many as 12 out of the 15 safest countries are located in Europe, which once again confirms the continent's reputation as a global leader in stability and security.
Bhutan and Qatar among safe exotic destinations
Bhutan (22.98) and Qatar (23.33) are also among the safest, making them interesting choices for travellers seeking a safe yet culturally different destination.
Least safe countries for 2025.
At the bottom of the list are countries with high levels of violence and political instability:
- Philippines (82.32 points)
- Colombia (79.21)
- Mexico (78.42)
- Syria and Yemen
- Russia
- United States of America – 14th most insecure country
France's poor position
Despite its popularity, France is ranked 80th globally 34. In Europe. The main reason is continuous terrorist threats and unrest.
Latin America – contrasts of security
Although the region offers a wealth of attractive destinations, the level of safety varies:
- Paraguay and Uruguay among the safest
- Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico – at the bottom of the rankings due to violence, militarisation and a high crime rate
