The latest<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcafee.com\/en-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2026\/1-in-3-travelers-face-travel-scams-as-rising-costs-create-new-fraud-opportunities.html\"> McAfee cyber security research<\/a> opens serious questions about how safe the digital environment in which we operate is for end-users, but also what consequences this has on the reputation of large travel brands. Data shows that the pressure of high prices and limited capacity are forcing travellers into impulsive actions, thereby consciously ignoring digital dangers in order to save money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-kada-zelja-za-ustedom-nadvlada-oprez\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the desire to save money outweighs caution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The economic situation and rising travel costs directly dictate customer behaviour. According to McAfee, as many as 90% of respondents feel pressured to complete their booking as soon as possible in order to secure a lower price. This psychological factor creates ideal ground for fraud. A third of travellers admit they are willing to turn a blind eye to obvious warning signs (so-called. <em>red flags<\/em>if they are offered an attractive discount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The financial consequences for individuals are not negligible. Among those who have suffered some form of online fraud, more than 40% lost money, and in almost half of those cases the loss exceeded $500. From the perspective of the B2B sector, each defrauded traveller potentially represents a lost customer who will in future doubt the legitimacy of online sales channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-brendovi-na-udaru-tripadvisor-kao-glavna-meta-kopiranja\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brands Under Attack: Tripadvisor as a Primary Target for Copycatting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Criminals rarely invent new concepts; instead, they prefer to exploit the trust that established global brands have built up over years. McAfee Labs research identified that Tripadvisor is most frequently abused for creating fake websites and apps \u2013 three times more than platforms like Booking.com, Expedia, or Kayak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using recognisable visual identities, attackers create the illusion of a safe environment. Technology allows them to mass-produce fake websites and applications in a very short time, meaning that phishing campaigns spread faster than protection systems can react.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-ransomware-lazne-recenzije-i-opasne-navike-na-putu\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ransomware, fake reviews, and dangerous travel habits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem doesn&#x27;t end with the purchase of a ticket or accommodation; it continues throughout the journey itself. Travellers still engage en masse in high-risk digital habits. More than 60% of them regularly use public Wi-Fi networks and scan unverified QR codes at their destinations. Alarmingly, one in five travellers logs into mobile banking over open hotel or airport networks without any protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"sg-ai-highlighted-block wp-block-paragraph\">The most common forms of fraud encountered<a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/category\/tourism-industry-2\/\" type=\"category\" id=\"208\"> Industry <\/a>Those faced include fake booking confirmations, fictitious advertisements for private accommodation rentals, and requests for payment outside of official platforms. Particularly dangerous are fake customer support channels for airlines and hotels, which extract sensitive data from clients under the guise of problem-solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-umjetna-inteligencija-mijenja-pravila-igre\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Artificial intelligence is changing the game<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What makes this situation even more complex is the integration of generative artificial intelligence into the arsenals of online fraudsters. Automation tools enable the creation of phishing messages and fake interfaces that no longer have the classic linguistic errors or technical shortcomings by which they were once recognised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tourism industry must prioritise investment in client education and <a href=\"http:\/\/(https:\/\/tragento.com\/aerodromi-luke-i-turizam-na-meti-hakera-enisa-upozorava-na-rastuce-kiberneticke-prijetnje\">security protocols<\/a>.
