While the western part of the region has successfully transformed into year-round destinations, the eastern part still relies almost exclusively on sun and sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain has positioned itself as a leader in the fight against seasonality with a summer dependency of just 52.8 percent. It is followed by Portugal with 54.5 percent and Italy with 58.7 percent, demonstrating that their hotels, agencies, and DMCs have succeeded in diversifying their offerings through cultural, gastronomic, and urban tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the very bottom of this ranking are Greece and Croatia. While Greece, with 72.9 percent dependence, already shows early signs of extending activity into the pre- and post-season, Croatia records a radical 79.1 percent. For domestic hoteliers and agencies, this is a clear signal that destination management strategies must be thoroughly changed if long-term economic sustainability is to be achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/ENG1-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9467\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo Mabrian<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-potpuno-razliciti-profili-gostiju-u-prvom-i-cetvrtom-kvartalu\">Completely different guest profiles in the first and fourth quarters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For successful off-season capacity filling, it's crucial to understand that autumn and winter travellers don't have the same motives or budgets. Market data clearly identifies two very different groups that destination management must account for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first wave, which occurs between January and March, is mainly made up of couples from closer, regional markets. They more frequently opt for mid-range accommodation (three stars) and are motivated by short weekend breaks, city exploration, and local gastronomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, the period from October to December attracts guests from traditional, strong European emitting markets who actually wish to extend their summer feeling. This group has significantly greater purchasing power, prefers luxury four and five-star hotels, and seeks personalised and highly curated experiences. It is precisely within this segment that the biggest opportunity lies for increasing revenue per available room (RevPAR) at times when the summer crowds have dispersed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-zracni-kapaciteti-i-dogadaji-kao-poluge-za-redistribuciju-potraznje\">Air capacities and events as levers for demand redistribution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest challenges of off-season business \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/category\/aerospace-industry\/\" type=\"category\" id=\"41\">lack of direct flights<\/a> \u2013 is being resolved slowly. Forecasts for the fourth quarter of 2026 indicate that airlines recognise the region's potential. In the period from October to December, air capacity to the five observed Mediterranean countries will grow by 4.6 percent, which in numbers means over 96 million secured seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Greece leads in this segment with double-digit growth in air capacity of 10.7 percent, while Spain will grow by 5.4 percent, and Italy by 4.2 percent. Both traditional and low-cost carriers are recording an increase in the number of seats, which opens up space for destinations to create new packages in cooperation with tour operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With better connectivity, key <a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/the-events-industry-is-a-strong-driver-of-travel-growth-confirms-new-research\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"7690\">in-destination events are becoming a driver of tourism.<\/a> Analysis shows that between 53 and 72 percent of all events in Southern Europe are already naturally held outside the summer peak, and they generate up to 73 percent of the total annual attendance. The B2B segment, cultural festivals, and sports events represent an infrastructure that can attract visitors and give meaning to open hotels and restaurants during winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-iskoristite-prozore-klimatske-prednosti-i-cjenovne-prednosti\">Utilise \u201cclimate advantage windows\u201d and price advantages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An interesting strategic tool that the report presents is the Climate Perception Index (CPI). It defines periods when the actual weather conditions at a destination are significantly more pleasant than an average traveller from Northern or Western Europe would expect. While most countries have two such windows (late winter and autumn), Croatia and Portugal benefit from an additional spring window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When these microclimatic conditions combine with the fact that markets like the UK, Germany, and France use the majority of their annual holidays (between 53 and 63 percent) outside of the summer peak, it opens up enormous scope for targeted, niche campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The financial incentive for travellers during this period is exceptionally strong. Hotel prices in the winter months will fall drastically compared to summer 2025. Three-star hotels will be a quarter cheaper, four-star hotels 22% less, while five-star luxury establishments can be booked for as much as a third less.
