While airlines have been using global distribution systems for decades, the railways have remained trapped in fragmented national systems. The European Commission now wants to put an end to this by introducing mandatory ticket data sharing, which would allow a passenger to buy a single ticket for a route involving several different operators, such as \u00d6BB, Deutsche Bahn, or Trenitalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transparentnost-kao-uvjet-za-konkurentnost\">Transparency as a condition for competitiveness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main obstacle to the development of cross-border rail transport has not only been infrastructure so far, but also <a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/trains-are-becoming-mobile-offices-reveals-new-amex-gbt-research\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"5271\">data enclosure<\/a>. Large national operators often hold a monopoly on pricing and scheduling information, making it difficult for independent ticket sales platforms to operate. According to a new proposal, rail companies will be legally obliged to share their data with all relevant sales channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/business-travellers-are-increasingly-choosing-trains-bcd-travel-reveals-why\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"5092\">This means easier price comparison for travellers.<\/a>, but also the possibility of combining the most favourable routes from different providers in one place. The industry views this as a form of \u201croaming ban\u201d, but on rails. The goal is to create an environment where buying a train ticket is as simple as subscribing to streaming services \u2013 one platform offering access to all providers without hidden complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nova-razina-zastite-putnika-u-slucaju-kasnjenja\">New level of passenger protection in case of delays<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the key problems encountered by travel agency clients and individual travellers is the loss of rights during transit. If one train is delayed and a passenger misses a connection with another operator, they are currently often left to their own devices as tickets are treated as separate contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new system introduces sole responsibility. In the event of delays or cancellations, the operator that caused the problem will have to bear the costs of re-routing, meals, and even accommodation. Such travel guarantees drastically reduce the risk for passengers and make it easier for agencies to sell more complex rail arrangements that were previously considered \u201chigh-risk\u201d due to unreliable connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-poslovni-potencijal-za-agencije-i-tehnoloski-sektor\">Business potential for agencies and the tech sector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the railway <a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/tag\/sustainability-ecology\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"67\">most ecologically friendly <\/a>In terms of travel, its sales in the B2B sector have been hampered by a lack of standardisation. As many as 43% of respondents in recent surveys say they do not book international train journeys precisely because of the complicated booking process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opening of data and the introduction of a unique ticket opens up enormous <a href=\"https:\/\/tragento.com\/en\/category\/traveltech\/\" type=\"category\" id=\"6\">space for travel-tech companies<\/a> i TMCs (Travel Management Companies). Digital platforms will be obliged to display all available options neutrally, which creates fair market competition.
