One week is ideal for a trip to Malta! Below you will find a day-by-day itinerary that includes some of the best things to do in Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are fortunate enough to have more time available, add a few days to relax on one of the island's numerous sandy or rocky beaches, spend a few nights on Gozo, sample plenty of delicious local food, and take a boat trip to experience the coastlines of Malta, Gozo and Comino from a unique perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1. \u2013 Arrival and Sliema<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcome<\/em>Welcome to Malta!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After landing at Malta International Airport and checking into your accommodation, begin your Maltese adventure by heading to Sliema for dinner with views of Valletta's illuminated skyline. If your arrival time permits, consider an earlier arrival in Sliema to explore the shops and boutiques of this Maltese shopping hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2 \u2013 Valletta and the Three Cities<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valletta, the capital of Malta, is a destination you simply must visit! Did you know that this UNESCO World Heritage site is also the smallest capital in Europe? Valletta is a true open-air museum. It is a living example of Baroque architecture, a monument that the Knights of St. John gifted to the world almost five centuries ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its magnificent palaces, impressive fortifications, picturesque streets, restaurants, cafes and bars, Valletta offers a wealth of attractions. Take a few hours, if not a whole day, to explore this beautiful city. Don't miss the main attractions such as Manoel Theatre,<\/a> St John's Cathedral<\/a>, Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens<\/a> tea The Grand Master's Palace<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After exploring Valletta, hop on a traditional water taxi in the Grand Harbour to reach the area known as the Three Cities. The boat ride takes less than 5 minutes and offers one of the most picturesque experiences in Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Three Cities are Senglea, Cospicua, and Vittoriosa, of which the latter is the largest. Vittoriosa, originally known as Birgu, earned its name due to its victorious resistance during the Great Siege of 1565. Despite suffering damage from bombing during World War II, it remains steeped in history. Must-see attractions in the Three Cities include Gardjola Gardens<\/a> What are you doing? Fort St. Angelo <\/a>The Victorious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 3 \u2013 Mdina, Rabat and Mosta<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mdina, also known as the Silent City, was the first capital of Malta during the time of the Knights of St. John (the Knights of Malta). Its fortified walls, narrow streets, and a blend of medieval and baroque architecture make it one of the most enchanting places on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n

Rabat, Mdina's neighbouring town, is also well worth exploring. It\u2019s an ideal spot for lunch, whether you\u2019re after a Michelin-recommended restaurant or a relaxed local spot serving pastizzi (a beloved local savoury pastry, stuffed with either ricotta or mushy peas). Rabat is also a charming place that hides a few historical sites, such as Wignacourt Museum <\/a>i Catacombs of St. Paul<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While you're in the vicinity, head towards the town of Mosta and visit one of the world's largest unsupported domes. Rotunda and Bridge.<\/a> It is a Roman Catholic church built between the 1830s and the 1860s. It narrowly escaped destruction during the Second World War, when in 1942 an aerial bomb penetrated the dome and fell into the church during Mass, but did not explode. The Maltese interpreted this event as a miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later this afternoon, why don't you try Wine tasting!<\/a> The Maltese islands are proud of two indigenous grape varieties called \u0120ellew\u017ca (red and ros\u00e9) and Girgentina (white). Discover the unique flavours of Maltese wines and learn more about their history and production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 4 \u2013 Gozo <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trip to Malta isn't complete without a visit to its sister island, Gozo! This beautiful island is packed with hidden gems, beaches and historical sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two ferry options for getting to Gozo: Gozo Highspeed<\/a> It departs from Valletta and the journey takes 45 minutes, whilst Gozo Channel<\/a> It's a 30-minute drive from Cirkewwa ferry port in the north of Malta. With the Gozo Channel, you can also take your car on the ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gozo is half the size of Malta (more precisely, it's one-third of its size), and is more rural and peaceful. Despite this, there's plenty to see, so an overnight stay is highly recommended!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don't miss the Citadel, Basilica of Ta\u2019 Pinu<\/a>, \u0120gantija Archaeological Park<\/a>, Ta\u2019 Kola Windmill<\/a>, Mixta Cave<\/a>, Dwejra and the Inland Sea<\/a>, G\u0127asri Valley<\/a>, Ramleh Bay<\/a> i Solane<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 5 \u2013 Megalithic Temples, Blue Grotto and Dingli Cliffs<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Blue Grotto is an incredible cave carved into the rock, which you can admire from above or explore as part of available boat trips. The cave is surrounded by some of the clearest and brightest cobalt-blue seas you can possibly imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malta is truly a paradise for history lovers. In a convenient location near the Blue Grotto, you can visit \u0126a\u0121ar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park<\/a>. This UNESCO World Heritage site encompasses a group of monumental megalithic structures dating from between 3600 and 3200 BC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip: A visit at sunset is a spectacular experience as the sun beautifully illuminates the temples!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just 15 minutes away from the \u0126a\u0121ar Qim and Mnajdra archaeological parks lie the Dingli Cliffs. This long stretch of cliffs rises above the sea and provides the perfect spot to relax and take in the breathtaking views before heading off for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 6 \u2013 Comino and Popeye Village<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Cirkewwa, take a ferry to Comino. This island is famous for its stunning Blue Lagoon. Arrive as early as you can to experience it before the crowds descend, as it's understandably a very popular spot! Despite its size, Comino boasts other beautiful beaches besides the Blue Lagoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After spending an afternoon, or even a whole day on Comino, on your way back to your accommodation, stop by Popeye Village<\/a>. From the top of the cliff, you can gaze down upon the original film set of the 1980 musical film \u201ePopeye,\u201d starring Robin Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 7 \u2013 Marsaxlokk and St. Peter's Pool<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start your last day in Malta with a visit to the charming fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Stroll along the picturesque harbour, admiring the traditional fishing boats with painted eyes known as luzzu<\/em> and explore the vibrant market<\/a> if it's Sunday. For your final meal, enjoy the freshest fish and seafood at one of the restaurants right on the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n
