After weeks of discussions, the compromise reached provides a clearer framework for travel agents, tour operators, and consumers \u2013 without the excessive restrictions that previously caused industry concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ECTAA points out that legislators have accepted key sector remarks, particularly regarding definitions, payment rules and protection in case of insolvency. In practice, this should mean less administrative burden, more flexibility when creating offers and clearer information for passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most important changes is the simplification of definitions. By removing the concept of linked travel arrangements and the previously proposed \u201e3-hour package\u201c further complexity has been avoided. Additionally, package holidays lasting longer than 24 hours may be exempted from the directive's regime, provided that the traveller is clearly and timely informed about this. This maintains transparency while giving organisers the necessary operational flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a great relief to abandon the idea of limiting advance payments. The sector will retain its current booking models, which is particularly important for tour operators and agencies operating within international service supply chains. A balanced approach to travel recommendations also remains: automatic legal consequences that could hinder business in the event of sudden changes in destination risks have been avoided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, not everything has been resolved. ECTAA regrets that a more flexible solution was not adopted for situations of exceptional circumstances. The 14-day refund obligation has remained in the text, even though the industry warns that crisis situations \u2013 such as pandemics or border closures \u2013 require a more shock-resistant model. The organisation announces that it will continue to advocate for mechanisms that equally protect passengers and service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ECTAA President Frank Oostdam highlights that this is proof that dialogue between industry and institutions can achieve practical solutions. According to him, the new directive better reflects the daily challenges of the passenger sector while maintaining a strong level of consumer protection.
