Following more than a decade of planning, Phuket authorities are finally launching a water taxi project. Phuket is introducing boat taxis to ease traffic congestion, with the aim of reducing road traffic jams, especially in the zone between the airport and the main beaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot phase from November<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first line will be established in November and will connect Nai Yang Beach<\/strong>, near the international airport, with a popular Patong Beach<\/strong>. A route of 16.7 nautical miles will take approximately 40 minutes by boat<\/strong>, the journey, depending on traffic, takes between an hour and a half and three hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the long-term plan, a network of 14 viewpoints<\/strong> along the western coast of the island, including key tourist beaches such as Chameleon<\/strong> i Corona<\/strong>. This way, the busiest parts of Phuket would be relieved, and visitors would be offered a new, faster, and more attractive transport option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water taxis will operate exclusively during Peak season (November \u2013 April)<\/strong>. The summer months, influenced by the southwest monsoon, bring adverse weather conditions, making regular navigation unsafe and unsustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An idea that's over a decade old<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The project is not new \u2013 it was approved with a budget over ten years ago, but never realised. Earlier this year, the former prime minister also gave his support for its revival. Paetongtarn Shinawatra<\/strong>, which accelerated the launch of the first phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By introducing taxi boats, Phuket is entering a new phase of development for its tourism infrastructure. The project could significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve the visitor experience, but it also shows how destinations in South East Asia are increasingly investing in Sustainable and alternative transport solutions<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
