For hotels, OTAs and travel tech, it is no longer enough just to introduce AI \u2013 it is necessary to know where and how it should be made visible to the user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European AI Act has entered a new phase of implementation. From 2 August 2026, the transparency obligations under Article 50 apply, which raises a number of practical questions for tourism companies that have already integrated AI into sales, marketing and customer support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-chatbot-vise-ne-smije-glumiti-covjeka\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The chatbot is no longer allowed to impersonate a human<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a traveller communicates directly with an AI system, such as a chatbot or virtual agent, they must be informed that they are interacting with artificial intelligence, except when it is obvious from the context. Generative systems must also enable the identification of synthetic content in a machine-readable format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For travel tech companies, this means that compliance is no longer just a legal issue. It is becoming part of the user experience design, from the first contact with a chatbot to automated post-booking support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-ai-fotografije-postaju-pitanje-povjerenja\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">AI photographs are becoming a matter of trust<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A particularly sensitive area for tourism is accommodation photographs. An analysis by ABCD Agency and ContentGuard covered a sample of more than 25,000 hotel photographs, and signs of AI generation or post-processing were found in approximately one-fifth of the analysed images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue is not just the use of AI. The line is crossed when a photograph of a pool, room or beach creates an impression that the guest will not find at the destination. In that case, technological savings quickly become a reputational and consumer risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EU has also published special icons for labelling AI content. However, contrary to the claim appearing in some media reports, <strong>Using those exact EU icons is not mandatory<\/strong>. Transparency obligations are, while the icons themselves are a voluntary way of implementing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-kazne-su-samo-dio-rizika\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fines are just part of the risk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For certain breaches of the AI Act, penalties can reach \u20ac15 million or 3% of the company&#x27;s total annual turnover, with special rules for smaller companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the tourism industry, the broader message is more important. Personalisation, automation and generative marketing are not going to disappear. However, companies will need to more clearly distinguish between AI that helps the traveller and AI that can deceive, manipulate or make decisions without sufficient human oversight.
