The Croatian national carrier is entering a crucial phase of completely reshaping its fleet. The summer months bring an intensification of deliveries which should stabilise the route network at the height of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current wave of fleet renewal in Croatia Airlines<\/a> it has officially entered its most dynamic phase. After recently landing at Zagreb Airport the ninth Airbus A220<\/a>, the company's management confirmed that it expects two more aircraft of the same type during the summer months. This will bring the number of new aircraft to eleven. This brings much-needed relief for the operations team who have been struggling with technical issues on older aircraft in recent weeks. Additionally, it also alleviates the resulting pressure on the flight schedule. A further three aircraft are planned to be accepted by the end of the year, provided that the manufacturer's global supply chains do not fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World premiere in the home skies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Particular attention from the international aviation public has been drawn to the news about the appearance of one of the upcoming aircraft. Specifically, Croatia Airlines will take delivery of the world's first Airbus A220-300 to carry the official livery of the Star Alliance association. This is in fulfilment of the alliance's strict rules, according to which each member must have a precisely determined percentage of its fleet in the recognisable black and white design. Furthermore, the selection of an entirely new aircraft type for this role clearly shows the direction of the company's long-term strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleet unique type logic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Switch to the so-called single-type<\/em> The business model, which is due to be completed in 2027, marks a complete break from the current practice of a mixed fleet of Airbus and Dash turboprops. From a cost management perspective, operating only one aircraft family dramatically simplifies crew training. It also reduces the need to stock various spare parts and facilitates technical maintenance. The backbone will be the A220-300 model with 149 seats. The smaller A220-100 variant with 127 seats will be used to optimise capacity on routes with lower demand or at specific destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financially, this historical leap is being addressed through long-term leases with leasing companies. This protects current liquidity, although investments in supporting infrastructure and staff training in Zagreb remain extremely high. The rapid introduction of the ninth aircraft on the key route to Zurich has shown that the company has no time to wait. Therefore, if it wants to maintain accuracy and competitiveness on more than 50 international routes, it must react quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
