Italy: Strikes announced in air and rail transport
Travellers in Italy this week should anticipate traffic congestion. Strikes have been announced that will affect flights and train lines.
On Thursday, 26 February, employees of several airlines are participating in a 24-hour strike. The action involves air traffic personnel, airport staff and related services. According to available information, ITA Airways has already cancelled around 55 percent of planned flights for that day. Disruptions are also expected for the airline easyJet i Vueling.
Rail services will be affected on Friday and Saturday, February 27th and 28th. This means possible delays and cancellations on domestic and international lines.
It is interesting that the previously planned air traffic strike, scheduled for February 16th, has been postponed by a decision of the Italian authorities. The reason was the overlap with the period of the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights and trains before departure. In situations like these, schedule changes are very common.
