5th Congress of Family Accommodation in Split places emphasis on digitalisation and regulation
In Split, on 20th and 21st February, there was a 5. Congress of family accommodation. The event brought together private accommodation providers, institutional representatives, and tourism experts. The main theme of the congress is „E-provider – from host to entrepreneur“.
The Minister of Tourism and Sport, Tonči Glavina, has announced the adoption of a new Act on Catering Activities. According to the announcements, the act should enter into force by May. The emphasis is on stronger supervision and better regulation of the short-term rental market.
The minister explained that the law will introduce mandatory identification numbers for all accommodation facilities. Each room, apartment, or holiday home will have its own number. The system will be connected to the Tax Administration, allowing for regular monitoring without constant field visits.
It was specifically highlighted that unregistered landlords will no longer be able to advertise on digital platforms. The aim is to reduce the grey economy and ensure fairer market conditions. The plan also includes expanding the powers of competent services, including municipal wardens, customs, and the State Inspectorate.
The President of the Croatian Family Accommodation Association, Barbara Marković, highlighted the importance of solving the problem of „undeclared accommodation“. The congress opened a discussion on the impact of unregistered businesses on legitimate renters and destinations.
The Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Staničić, presented the novelties in the eVisitor system. The possibility for tourists to register themselves in the system has been announced. This change is expected to further simplify administrative processes for renters.
The congress is organised by the Croatian Association of Family Accommodation (HUOS), with co-organisers and partners. The gathering in Split once again showed that the family accommodation sector is increasingly moving towards digitalisation, clearer rules, and professionalisation of business.
