Hyatt accelerates European expansion: new hotels arriving in Rome, Seville and Lisbon
Hyatt is preparing several major openings in southern Europe towards the end of 2026. Thompson will make its debut in Italy and Seville, while The Standard enters Lisbon, and Hyatt Regency further strengthens the group's offering in Rome.
Hyatt's European growth is increasingly focusing this year on major urban destinations and the lifestyle segment. Four new projects in Rome, Seville, and Lisbon together bring just over 600 rooms and suites, with three of the properties belonging to Hyatt's Lifestyle portfolio.
Rome is getting two different Hyatt concepts
Thompson Rome will be the first Thompson Hotels brand hotel in Italy. The hotel on Via delle Botteghe Oscure will have 69 rooms and suites, three F&B concepts, and a rooftop bar with 360-degree views. Hyatt is currently taking reservations for stays from 1 October 2026, indicating that the project is nearing completion after several earlier postponements.
The second Roman project targets a broader mix of business and leisure guests. The Hyatt Regency Rome Central brings 238 rooms, more than 1,000 square metres of meeting and event space, and a rooftop with a 25-metre pool. Its location near Termini station gives the hotel additional weight in the MICE and corporate market.
Thompson is coming to Seville for the first time
Thompson Seville is opening 101 rooms on Plaza de la Concordia in the historical centre of the city. Reservations are already available for stays from 1 October. In addition to a rooftop pool, the hotel will feature restaurant, coworking and event facilities, positioning it somewhere between a classic luxury hotel and a lifestyle space designed also for the local public.
The Standard is expanding Hyatt's lifestyle portfolio in Lisbon
In Lisbon's Alfama, The Standard is taking over the historic Palácio Santa Clara. Current brand data lists 170 hotel rooms and 24 extended-stay apartments. The project includes restaurants, bars, a swimming pool, a spa, and spaces for daytime and evening programmes.
These openings fit into a considerably wider the expansion of Hyatt. At the end of June, the company had around 154,000 rooms in its contracted global pipeline, 10% more than a year earlier. However, Hyatt warned that some of the planned openings from the second half of 2026 could be pushed back to early 2027.
